Movia has a functional, simple and modern identity. Now Movia can add a typeface to its flexible design programme. We created the unique Movia Display typeface for bus signs – a typeface that is already a daily presence in almost every Zealander’s life, whether watching a bus drive by or actually riding on it.
Movia Display’s primary role in supporting the brand is to be user-friendly — it must be easily readable from both short and long distances without losing aesthetic appeal. Testing showed it met the criteria where it counted: with the public, who found it fast and easy to read.
When you design a dot-typeface for a fixed sign-format you have a limited space of exercise. A character made of dots is not possible to scale up or down, so in order to accommodate the requirements for different font sizes and number of lines in the display, we created two variations of the typeface - one 11 dots high and one 22 dots high.
