For further information please contact senior graphic designer Mikael Tonning /Our posters for the Golden Days festival have been obtained in the permanent Poster Collection at the Danish Museum of Art & Design. The four posters were designed for the 2009 Golden Days festival where the theme was ‘The achievements of the body’.
Head librarian Lars Dybdahl explains why the choice fell on these posters: “Translating the Golden Days festival-theme into images, each of the four posters unite a simple, readable and attention-drawing form with a complexity of meanings and associations that calls the desire for more than a moment of contemplation”, says Lars Dybdahl and continues: “Here we are confronted with an aesthetic that activates a collage-like layer-upon-layer method, which is known both from modernistic avant-gardism and graphic design’s shaping of visual communication in the digital space. At the same time the posters together-mounted bodies awaken reminiscent of old anatomy books pop up figures with disturbing look at 'the inner'. The posters strategic, visual and association rich mix is gripping - and of course they are included in the Danish Museum of Art & Designs Poster Collection.”
The posters have been designed by senior graphic designer Mikael Tonning who has worked closely with the Golden Days secretariat throughout the last couple of years. Mikael Tonning refers to his collaborators as 'the ideal client' because they are happy to try new things, and not afraid to let him deconstruct history and iconic images. “This makes them incredibly interesting to work with, because they show a respect for history while making history and culture relevant for a modern audience”, says Mikael Tonning.
