Visual identity and brand development for Billund airport
Making Billund matterBillund airport in western Denmark was originally built to service LEGO. As its leisure and travel routes grew, it became a travel and cargo centre for the whole region. But there was competition. A nearby city wanted its airport to become the regional hub. To keep its standing and accommodate future growth, Billund built a new terminal—and asked us to develop a complete visual identity reflecting their international importance, without forgetting their regional roots. | Home and awayThe Jutland area of Denmark has historically been known for two things—simplicity and thrift. So that’s where we started. Working with light Nordic materials to elegant yet simple effect, we defined a cohesive look and feel for everything from furniture, uniforms and signage to information boards and shopping areas. We also tapped into that same Nordic/Jutland spirit in designing the airport’s logo and communication elements. The overall impression is an attractive international profile that is still true to the local mind-set. | Local destinationBillund airport has always had a strong reputation as a cargo centre. These days, however, more and more passengers are choosing Billund, the fastest growing airport in Denmark, as their departure point. The restaurants and shops are thriving as the local population has made the airport a destination of its own. Anyone who’s travelled to a regional airport anywhere in the world knows they often pale to their big city counterparts. Billund bucks that trend by bringing international excitement and local culture together seamlessly. | More informationFor further information, please contact senior project manager Lars Larson |
